Comprehensive Warranty" vs "Compressor-Only": Decoding AC Warranty Fine Print
1 year comprehensive, 9 years on compressor" sounds like a decade of protection. It isn't. Here's exactly what those words mean, and what they quietly leave out.

The warranty sticker that sounds better than it is

"1 year comprehensive warranty + 9 years compressor warranty." It's printed on nearly every AC box in India, in some version of these words, and it's designed to sound like ten years of protection.

It isn't. And the gap between what it sounds like and what it actually covers is where most of the surprise repair bills come from.

What "comprehensive" actually covers — and for how long

"Comprehensive" means parts and labour are covered for that period — typically just the first year. During this window, if almost anything goes wrong, the visit, the labour, and the part are free.

After that first year ends, the word "comprehensive" disappears from your coverage. What's left is usually just one component.

What "compressor-only" actually means

The compressor is the single most expensive individual part in an AC — which is exactly why it's the one component that gets a long warranty. It sounds generous. But here's what a compressor-only warranty does not include, starting from month 13:

  • Labour charges — even if the compressor itself is replaced free, the technician's visit and installation labour are usually billed separately
  • Gas charging — refrigerant top-ups are not part of compressor coverage at all
  • PCB (circuit board) — one of the most common failure points in modern inverter ACs, and almost never covered past year one
  • Remote, display panel, fan motor, and other components — all excluded once comprehensive coverage ends
  • General service visits — routine servicing and diagnostic visits are chargeable

So "9 years compressor warranty" really means: if your compressor fails in year 5, the part might be free, but the technician's visit to install it, and everything else that could go wrong along the way, is not.

Why this structure exists industry-wide

This isn't unique to any one brand — it's close to the standard model across the industry. Manufacturing and after-sales service are typically run as separate cost centers, sometimes by entirely separate companies or franchise networks. Long-term "comprehensive" coverage would be expensive to sustain for whoever's covering it, so the industry settled on a structure where the flashy long warranty number (9 years, 10 years) applies to only the one part that's cheapest to guarantee and hardest to actually need serviced twice.

The three lines to actually read on any warranty card

Before buying any AC, ask for the warranty terms in writing and check specifically for:

  1. How many years is "comprehensive," and how many are "compressor-only"? These are not the same coverage, even when they're printed on the same card.
  2. Is labour included after year one, or only the part? This single line determines whether a repair costs you ₹500 or ₹5,000.
  3. Is gas charging covered anywhere in the warranty, at any year? For most standard warranties, the answer is no, ever.

If a salesperson quotes you "10 years warranty" without specifying which years are comprehensive and which are compressor-only, ask again until they do.

How Heuser Care+ is structured differently

Heuser Care+ covers parts, labour, gas charging, and service visits — together, for the full 7 years — rather than splitting coverage into a short comprehensive window followed by a long but narrow compressor-only tail. There's no year-two cliff where labour and gas quietly become your responsibility.

We can offer this because Servsy already runs the service side of this business — we're not buying third-party service contracts to back the promise, we're the ones doing the repairs.

The takeaway

A warranty card with a big number on it isn't the same as years of protection. Before you buy, ask what's covered in each year, not just how many years are printed on the box.
